Justin Trudeau, Sophie Grégoire Trudeau wish daughter Ella-Grace a happy 16th birthday: 'You've always been unstoppable'
The Canadian prime minister said his daughter is a "smart, young woman" who inspires him daily.
The Trudeau family is celebrating a sweet 16! On Wednesday, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, as well as Sophie Grégoire Trudeau, took to social media to share tribute posts to their daughter, Ella-Grace. The now-separated couple's middle child and only daughter, who was born on Feb. 5, 2009, was featured in separate Instagram birthday posts.
The Liberal Party leader, who announced his resignation a month ago, shared two photos of his daughter in his post. That included a photo of himself taking a selfie with her over a night view and an older snapshot of her peeking into his office when she was younger.
"Happy birthday, Ella-Grace! From the fearless little girl to the smart, young woman who inspires me every day — you've always been unstoppable. Je t'aime," Trudeau wrote in his post on Wednesday, followed by a French translation.
Ella-Grace's mom also posted an Instagram Reel, featuring a video of three photos taken when she was a baby. Grégoire Trudeau's post also included a family photo — featuring Trudeau and the couple's sons, Xavier, 17, and Hadrien, 10 — crowded around a kitchen table with a birthday cake. "My baby fairy is now 16! Ella-Grace, tu brilles et on t'aime!" Grégoire Trudeau wrote as on-screen text, which translates to "you shine and we love you."
In the caption of her post, she wrote a heartfelt note about being a parent and watching your children get older: "To all the parents out there who are watching their children grow up before their eyes…it's not so easy now is it? There are no words to express the depth of love and inspiration I feel when I witness what kind of human being my daughter is becoming…kind, fierce, loving, witty and funny!"
In the comments sections of both posts, numerous people wished Ella-Grace a happy birthday. Others shared their admiration for the Trudeau family.
"Happy birthday, Ella-Grace! Sophie, it's so nice to see you with Justin in your family photo!" one person wrote, to which someone else replied saying, "It's what mature co-parents do, and it's great to see!"
"Happy birthday, Ella! Warmest wishes for a lovely day, and a wonderful year!" another chimed in.
"You are smart, intelligent and very beautiful just like your dad! Happy birthday to you," one person added.
"A loving dad is a gift. Even now my dad's passed, I can still hear similar sentiments he said to me. ... Happy Birthday, Ella-Grace. May your dad's love give you a life time gift, as mine gave to me," someone shared.
"Bonne fête, Ella-Grace...you are as beautiful as your parents...hugs from just a reg ol' Canadian who appreciates all of you. Hugs," someone else penned.
The Trudeau family has often been vocal about their children, sharing photos of their three kids every now and then on social media. Ella-Grace has been featured on the prime minister's official account multiple times, including a photo of himself waving with his daughter while "on the road," a Thanksgiving dinner post with her siblings and a selfie for last year's Earth Day.
"The best days of my life are the ones I've spent outside with my kids. They're who I think about when the fight to protect our planet gets tough. They're who I want to leave a better world to," Trudeau wrote in an April 22 post, which included a photo of himself and Ella-Grace wearing ski goggles last winter.
