Kamala Harris Has an Adorable Alternative to "Second Gentleman" for Her Husband Doug Emhof

No, it's not "second dude."

The results of the 2020 presidential election gave us a series of history-making firsts. One of these firsts, perhaps best described as a “second,” pertains to Vice President-elect Kamala Harris’s husband, Doug Emhoff.

Emhoff, a lawyer, will enter the White House in 2021 as the nation’s first male spouse of a president or vice president. Notably, he’ll also make history as the first Jewish spouse of a president or vice president.

Given the unprecedented nature of Emhoff’s new role, there has been speculation as to what his official title will be. In Harris and President-elect Joe Biden’s first joint interview since winning the election last month, CNN’s Jake Tapper broached that very topic.

Harris said that friends have called Emhoff “the second dude” (a title jokingly thrown around by CNN anchors as well), but the proper designation is in fact “the second gentleman.”

Don’t expect Harris to call her husband by that name, though. When asked whether she planned to refer to Emhoff as “the second gentleman,” Harris told Tapper, “No, I’ll call him honey.”

Can we call him honey, too? Please? Doug Emhoff, Second Gentleman and First Honey of The United States. Yes.
