But over the course of her nearly 10 years attending Commonwealth Day Services, Middleton has fashioned several unique looks that perfectly chart her style evolution through the years.
Ahead, see the Princess of Wales in designs courtesy of Catherine Walker, Erdem and more Commonwealth Day Service looks.
Commonwealth Day Service 2023
The Common Wealth Day Service in 2023 marked the royal’s first service as the Princess of Wales. For the event, Middleton wore a matching navy skirt suit set by Erdem from the brand’s pre-fall 2023 collection. The ensemble featured small white flowers embroidered over the fabric. She also wore a pair of Gianvito Rossi navy heels and carried a clutch by Emmy London. Her earrings, a set of double-drop sapphire and diamonds, previously belonged to the late Princess Diana.
Commonwealth Day Service 2022
The 2022 Common Wealth Day Service marked the first since the COVID-19 pandemic. Middleton, who was then still the Duchess of Cambridge, fashioned a bold sapphire blue coat dress by Catherine Walker. She wore a matching pillbox hat by the same designer. Middleton’s jewelry included sapphire and diamond earrings and necklace.
Commonwealth Day Service 2020
The 2020 Commonwealth Day Service saw Middleton don a red Catherine Walker coat. The monochromatic ensemble featured a fascinator with rose accent, burgundy gloves and pumps and a pair of drop earrings. She previously wore the Catherine Walker ensemble for Christmas Day services in 2018.
This Commonwealth Day was rather significant, as it marked Prince Harry and Meghan, Duchess of Sussex’s last public event before they stepped back as senior members of the royal family. This was also one of the last major events for the royal family before the COVID-19 pandemic.
Commonwealth Day Service 2019
It’s clear Catherine Walker is a favorite designer of the Princess of Wales. In 2019, Middleton wore yet another Catherine Walker ensemble in bright red. The coat dress included bold buttons lining the front. She completed her look with a matching fascinator and suede pumps by Emmy London.
Commonwealth Day Service 2018
2018 marked Middleton’s return to Common Wealth Day Services after she and Prince William missed the event in 2017. Pregnant with the couple’s third child, Prince Louis, Middleton fashioned a Beulah London coat in a rather subdued, dark blue tone. She completed the look with matching pumps, hat and clutch, making for a monochromatic ensemble.
Commonwealth Day Service 2016
The 2016 Commonwealth Day Service saw Middleton in a gray Erdem coat. Unlike looks she would wear later, Middleton’s coat played with some pattern, featuring a darker gray lace embellishment along the body of the coat and running down the long sleeves. She wore a matching hat and suede pumps.
Commonwealth Day Service 2015
Middleton’s first Commonwealth Day Service was in 2015, when she was pregnant with her second child, Princess Charlotte. Middleton accessorized her look with a Jane Taylor Millinery hat and cushion drop earrings by Kiki McDonough.
The Commonwealth Day Service of Celebration commemorates the Commonwealth of Nations. Held at Westminster Abbey in London, the occasion honors the diversity and unity of the Commonwealth as it stands today.
