A New Kate Middleton Photo Has Been Removed by Photo Agencies Due to Suspected ‘Manipulation’

The Associated Press, Getty Images, AFP, and Reuters have removed a new photo of Kate Middleton and her children released by the Palace for Mother’s Day in the U.K. today. The Palace said the photo was taken earlier this week by Prince William.

The AP, in particular, advised outlets using its reporting to “kill” the photo. The news organization alleged that “at closer inspection, it appears that the source has manipulated the image. No replacement photo has been sent.”

Per People, an AP spokesperson told The Telegraph, “The photo shows an inconsistency in the alignment of Princess Charlotte’s left hand.

The Palace has yet to respond to the allegations.

The photo initially generated a lot of commentary and attention when it was posted this morning to Kate and William’s Instagram, as it is the first clear look at Kate since she had planned abdominal surgery in January.

The Palace previously shut down online conspiracies about her whereabouts as she reportedly recovers from her procedure.

“Kensington Palace made it clear in January the timelines of the princess’ recovery and we’d only be providing significant updates,” a spokesperson for Kate told Us Weekly in a statement on February 29. “That guidance stands.” They added that Kate is continuing to do “well.”

The Palace shared news of Kate’s surgery on January 17.

They said the procedure, conducted on January 16, “was successful, and it is expected that she will remain in hospital for ten to fourteen days, before returning home to continue her recovery. Based on the current medical advice, she is unlikely to return to public duties until after Easter [March 31, 2024].

“The Princess of Wales appreciates the interest this statement will generate. She hopes that the public will understand her desire to maintain as much normality for her children as possible; and her wish that her personal medical information remains private. Kensington Palace will, therefore, only provide updates on Her Royal Highness’ progress when there is significant new information to share.

“The Princess of Wales wishes to apologize to all those concerned for the fact that she has to postpone her upcoming engagements. She looks forward to reinstating as many as possible, as soon as possible.”
