As she stepped out for a surprise engagement early Dec 4., Kate Middleton looked cool and casual as she announced her new role as patron of Family Action.

The position was previously held by the Queen herself for the past 65 years, and the Duchess will now be taking over her work with the organization, which helps vulnerable or disadvantaged children and families through both local and national services.

The Duchess joined families and children at Peterley Manor Farm, where they took part in activities like creating Christmas tree decorations and eco-friendly reindeer food, as well as choosing the perfect Christmas trees.
For the event, Kate was dressed in a bright red jacket from the French skiwear brand Perfect Moment, which she’s worn to multiple events since first wearing it back in 2017.
She paired her puffer with a green sweater, skinny jeans and $188 Berghaus hiking boots.
