The Princess of Wales has paid tribute to nature in a moving Mother’s Day message.

The 43-year-old shared a post on her social media platforms, which included timelapse videos of lush greenery as well as footage of her and Prince William on holiday with their three children in Norfolk last summer.

In the caption shared alongside the short clip, Kate wrote: “Over the past year, nature has been our sanctuary.

“This Mother’s Day, let us celebrate Mother Nature and recognise how our bond with the natural world can help not only nurture our inner selves, but remind us too of the role we play within the rich tapestry of life.”

Kate has previously praised the healing power of the natural world, having sought solace in the outdoors after she was diagnosed with cancer last year.

The princess took a step back from public duties during this time, as she underwent ongoing treatment and therapy. Having now recovered, Kate is now back undertaking royal duties, including her wide range of charity work.

As a patron for the Natural History Museum, which launched its own Urban Nature Project last year, Kate praised the endeavour for helping people in urban areas reconnect with nature and green spaces.

“I know the power of nature to support our development and wellbeing, both by bringing us joy and helping to keep us physically, mentally and spiritually healthy,” she wrote.

“I am hugely supportive of the museum’s commitment to create a special space which encourages people of all ages to reconnect with nature and learn more about how we can protect our natural world.

“I hope these gardens will be inspiring and transformative for the thousands of people who visit.”

In more recent months, Kate has thanked those who helped her recover from cancer; her first solo engagement this year was a visit to the Royal Marsden Hospital where she was treated.

She told patients undergoing similar treatment: “It makes you appreciate all the small things in life that you take for granted.”
