Kate Wants to "Maintain Normality" for George, Charlotte, and Louis While Recovering from Surgery
Yesterday, Kate Middleton underwent a planned abdominal surgery, Kensington Palace announced. She is expected to remain in the hospital for 10 to 14 days, and then recover at home in Windsor, with the support of her husband, Prince William, and the rest of her family. (The Prince of Wales has postponed engagements.) The Princess of Wales will return to royal duties after Easter, but the timetable for her return will depend on medical advice.
In their statement, Kensington Palace said, "The Princess of Wales appreciates the interest this statement will generate. She hopes that the public will understand her desire to maintain as much normality for her children as possible; and her wish that her personal medical information remains private."
The Princess of Wales's three children, Prince George, 10, Princess Charlotte, 8, and Prince Louis, 5, all attend school at Lambrook, in Berkshire, which is near the family's home at Adelaide Cottage in Windsor. The family made their last public appearance on Christmas Day, when they attended Christmas Day services at St Mary Magdalene Church on Sandringham Estate:
It's unlikely we'll get any more updates on the Princess of Wales's health. As Kensington Palace wrote, they will "only provide updates on Her Royal Highness’ progress when there is significant new information to share."
The Palace's statement concluded, "The Princess of Wales wishes to apologise to all those concerned for the fact that she has to postpone her upcoming engagements. She looks forward to reinstating as many as possible, as soon as possible."
