Katharine McPhee Celebrates 40th Birthday in Itty Bitty Blue Bikini: 'Magical Week'

"I guess turning 29 isn’t so bad," the musician joked of her latest milestone

Katharine McPhee is toasting another milestone birthday — in her bikini!

The singer-songwriter and actress celebrated her 40th birthday on Instagram with a carousel of images from a getaway with loved ones on Wednesday, all while she dressed just for the occasion.

In the post, McPhee included an image of herself wearing a light blue two-piece bikini and sun hat while she hung out with pals on a boat, as well as another shot of her in the bathing suit while posing with friend Matt Walker.

"It’s been such a magical week! Thank you all for all the birthday love. I guess turning 29 isn’t so bad 🤣🫶🏻✨," McPhee joked in her post's caption.

The American Idol alum also shared images of her friends checking out a cove, a video of her husband David Foster enjoying a "piña colada with booze," and a group pic of the whole crew posing on a large rock.

She also showed off a yellow-and-white knitted coverup top as she and friends recreated a popular TikTok audio from Jennifer Lawrence's 2023 film No Hard Feelings.

"I just turned 29," McPhee mouthed in the clip. "Last year."

After her friends ask her to clarify, McPhee again mouthed that she was 29 "last year" and was now "one more year older." While McPhee actually just turned 40 in real life, she's still getting plenty of birthday love in her comment section.

"I love this photo dump! - So you turned 29 and David is in his drinking boooooze era🍹😂… What a couple! 🙃🤍," one fan commented.

Earlier this month, Foster described his and McPhee's relationship to PEOPLE, calling marriage "a moving target." The pair wed in 2019.

“If you’re a parent, then you absolutely know," the 74-year-old musician said, before adding that their union doesn't have "any hard and fast rules.”

The father of six also described what it was like for them raising their son Rennie, 3 — explaining that "sometimes parents can agree to disagree and then agree on most things and a different philosophy on other things," adding that it "works itself out" sometimes.

Their agreements and disagreements, he said, are “all for the betterment of the child. Both of us, that’s what we work towards.”

As for if Rennie is taking up after mom and dad, Foster said it was "pretty amazing" to have his son join him on stage in Washington, D.C. last month as he drummed along with the music. "He's studied our drummer JR Robinson, who's incredible, for the last year and a half and he's figured it out on his own," Foster said.

"I'm not a drummer. I don't know how to play the drums. He just sort of figured it out," Foster added, before sharing that "every parent's child is special."
