When Sara Blakely’s Sneex launched, it was met with—what the Spanx founder probably expected—controversy. The internet, and frankly, my inner circle, was divided on the sneaker-heel hybrid that mostly resembled an athletic shoe with a 3-inch heel attached to it. Nonetheless, the $395 shoes sold out not too long after launching, with an impressive pool of celebs swiftly hopping on board, too. Reese Witherspoon and Jane Fonda gave them her stamp of approval, and they even snagged a spot on Oprah’s coveted Favorite Things list, perhaps the biggest win of all. Now, they’ve officially made their red-carpet debut, and frankly, I think it’s safe to say there’s simply not stopping them anymore.

In early January, Kathy Bates attended the 2025 Golden Globes in a simple, stylish outfit that didn’t involve a gown nor did it call on uncomfy heels that make it nearly impossible to celebrate the night away. Instead, the actress, who was nominated for her role in Matlock, put comfort first (refreshing!), in a two-piece combo that included high-waisted black trousers, a pretty beaded jacket, equally sparkling evening bag, and, wait for it, those aforementioned Sneex (cue the whaaat?).

Bates went with the brand’s best-selling Icon Hy-Heel style, which launched back in August 2024 to mixed reviews, though I knew it would only be a matter of time until everyone hopped aboard (Oprah, Witherspoon, Fonda!). What’s more, this particular style sold out within a month, though it was restocked in November, and in new shades at that, one of them being Bates’ indigo colorway that keeps going in and out of stock. Right now, it’s in stock, though if the past is any indication, sizes will be gone soon.

If you’re torn on the sneaker-heel, I get it. It’s controversial! It’s strange! But it’s clearly interesting and given the undeniable fact that people are buying it, it’s filling a void in the market. Sneex’s shoes have a patented design that includes a 3-inch heel "engineered for balanced weight distribution and long-lasting comfort,” per the brand, plus a roomy toe-box (no toes will be cramped in here!) and arch support from all-day wear. Other loves include the slip-on design that mimics your go-to slip-on sneakers, a durable, non-slip rubber sole, and the mixed suede, leather, and mesh upper.

Plus, given the fact that Bates is 76—and she wore these sneaker-heels for an hours-long awards ceremony—you can best bet they’re good enough for you and all your upcoming events. Celebs of all ages are on board, and honestly, I think they’re going to blow up in 2025. Mark my words.
