Katie Holmes’s Cool-Girl Coat Takes on a Polarizing Color Trend
Brat winter is upon us.
Apparently, the days of Katie Holmes' "regular schmegular" fashion are a thing of the past. Once the the queen of understated, uncontroversial style, the actress has been embracing weirder and wackier fashion on her daily New York City strolls of late. She wore an indie sleaze, Olsen-approved slouchy beanie! A controversial peplum top! A 1970s-esque fur coat that screamed Almost Famous! Culottes over a pair of tights! Green pants and clashing socks! Could it be? Has Katie Holmes become one of fashion's most experimental It girls?
Her latest look offers further proof that Holmes is branching out from her signature style. Stepping out in New York City on Sunday, the Our Town actress donned a simple outfit topped with an eye-catching coat in one of the the season's most daring colors: brat green. The maxi single-breasted lime green coat featured bold black and white buttons—Holmes paired it with a pair of wide legged jeans, black boots, a pale yellow turtleneck, and a black slouchy beanie. She also tossed on a gray sweater tied around her neck.
She accessorized with her trusty off-white Le Cambon purse from Manu Atelier, an extra large Starbucks coffee, a pair of gradient aviators, and an oversized bouquet—she's a Broadway star, after all!
While the color of Holmes' coat is certainly polarizing, after Zendaya's Challengers press tour, Charli XCX's brat summer, and Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande's greenified Wicked, there's no denying that it's the color of the year.
While not reinventing her signature style on the streets of New York, Holmes has been busy with a starring role in a production of Our Town. Adjusting to acting for the stage has come with its hiccups. Speaking with Jimmy Fallon last month, Holmes confessed that she even resorted to making something up when she forgot her lines one night. “I was in the middle of a scene and I just…I said the whole line except the last word and I couldn’t, I couldn’t remember it,” she laughed. “I made something up, but it didn’t make sense and then I got so red…and I got flustered, so I just said my lines so fast after that and got off stage.”
