Katie Holmes's current on Broadway as Mrs. Webb in Our Town is the gift the keeps on giving. In addition to delivering soaring performances night after night, the Dawson's Creek alumna is spotted before the show in enviable outfits that are equal parts chic, casual, and unexpected—and her latest look is no exception.

The actress was spotted in New York City on December 11 and looked layered up, head to toe. She wore a camel colored leather blazer with a plain white T-shirt underneath it, a large black scarf around her neck, and a matching slouchy beanie for additional warmth and protection from the elements. She paired the top half of her outfit with light blue denim jeans in a mid-rise and relaxed fit, and added a surprising touch to complete the outfit: a polarizing red mesh ballet flat, which has been a go-to style for the actress as of late.

The 45-year-old completed the look with large brown tortoiseshell square sunglasses to shield her eyes from the paparazzi, and accessorized with a light suede bag tossed casually into the crook of her elbow and a brown paper bag that was so filled to the brim, she needed to tightly cradle it in her arms.

Flats have been a staple in Holmes's wardrobe over the past couple of months. Over the summer, she wore red ballet flats with slouchy blue jeans and a white T-shirt, and swapped the pop of color for an edgier, buckled Miu Miu pair in black leather with silver grommets. Holmes has also made waves for wearing velvet Mary-Jane flats, another closet staple of hers.
