Katy Perry Cleared Up That Rumor About Being Related to Taylor Swift

Just to be clear, Katy Perry and Taylor Swift aren't cousins — but Perry says that they do fight like they're related. According to the site MyHeritage.com, Perry and Swift are "ninth cousins," but during an appearance on Capital Breakfast With Roman Kemp, Perry clarified that as far as she knows, there's no family blood, bad or not, between the two stars.

When Kemp addressed the rumors, Perry stated that it was pure "fan fic," but added, "Well, we fight like cousins." That didn't keep her from thinking about the possibility, however. "Wow, I'm going to have to ask her if this is true or if we should, like, get blood tests together or something," Perry said.

The show has some significance to Swift, too, Entertainment Tonight reports. According to ET, Swift addressed her relationship with Perry on Capital Breakfast. While many critics were still talking about their feud, Swift said that when the two had cleared the air, everything felt "lighter." Perry famously appeared in Swift's video for "You Need to Calm Down" dressed as a hamburger. Swift was wearing a French fries costume.

"Something felt so much lighter about my life when things became really good between us," Swift said. "And, you know, she and I have been fine for a while and, like, really on good terms but we didn't know if we were ever really gonna tell people about it. We wanted to make sure that was solid between us before we ever made, you know, the public aware."

Perry didn't elaborate on what it was like to fight like cousins, but she told Stellar that like a supportive family member, she supports Swift's projects, specifically talking about her documentary.

"We don't have a very close relationship because we are very busy, but we text a lot," she said. "I was impressed by her documentary [Miss Americana]because I saw some self-awareness starting to happen and I saw a lot of vulnerability."
