Katy Perry Split Her Pants During ‘American Idol’ and Had to Be Duct-Taped Onstage

American Idol dropped a new episode last night, which apparently involved Katy Perry splitting her pants in an unexpected wardrobe malfunction. Basically, while performing “Teenage Dream” during Hollywood Week, Katy bent down and tore the back of her red leather pants and you could legit hear the fabric ripping.

But Katy handled it like a pro as everyone laughed, saying, “Can I get some tape?” while Luke Bryan helpfully noted that “they busted.” Fortunately, TAPE WAS ON HAND and a bunch of people + Luke helped Katy put her pants back together, because the show must go on, etc.

Please note this is not the first time Katy has split her pants on American Idol. It’s basically a tradition at this point, and as People notes, the first pants-ripping happened in 2018, prompting Lionel Richie to cover Katy while yelling “OH NOOOOO” and a crew member to come tape her up.

Love that Katy always keeps it real.
