KC French restaurant opens a spot in Johnson County. ‘We’ve had a lot of excitement’

A French bistro hailing from Kansas City’s Crestwood neighborhood — Aixois — has opened a second location in Johnson County.

Aixois opened in the old Pig & Finch spot Wednesday in Leawood’s Park Place at 11570 Ash St.

While most of the menu and restaurant are the same, some of its items have some Cambodian influences. Chef Simon Soeun wanted to infuse hints of his culture into the restaurant, so he added a tuna sandwich ($16) and chicken noodle salad ($18) to the lineup.

Aixois opened in Leawood’s Park Place and is meant to be a “replica” of the restaurant in Crestwood.

The Park Place location also has a pizza oven and offers such varieties as margherita, Hawaiian and raclette (olive oil, raclette cheese, mozzarella, prosciutto and steamed potatoes).

The dark wood, black-and-white tiling, and antique accents are reminiscent of the original location at 251 E. 55th St.

General manager Jonathon Oakes said the goal is to make the Leawood spot more or less a “replica.” The new location has already attracted its fair share of customers in the few days it’s been open, Oakes said.

“We’ve had a lot of excitement,” he said. “Especially from our regulars who live in this neighborhood.”

Aixois has been in Kansas City for 23 years. Now, Johnson County fans won’t have to drive as far.

Emmanuel and Megan Sparks Langlade first opened Aixois in 2001, named after Emmanuel’s home: Aix-en-Provence in the south of France.

It sells quiche, oysters, duck leg, pates fraiches and other classic French dishes.

Pig & Finch closed in August 2022 after nearly a decade. Its menu included prime rib, shrimp and fried chicken.

Oakes said they’re still playing with the bistro’s hours, but for now they’re open from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays, and 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays. It’s closed on Sundays.
