Does it feel weird to say that I missed Kelly Ripa? When I saw her outing this morning, it felt like I was seeing an old, dear friend who’d been away for a while. Of course, Ripa wasn’t away per se, but her street-style sightings are rare, so whenever there are some, it feels like some sort of big Ripa return (BRR!) She nails it every time in the style department, this time opting for a menswear-inspired ‘fit that had boss woman written all over it.

Ripa was snapped arriving at 92Y in New York City this morning—which frankly makes me even more sad because I live close by—and she looked like she just got back from a sunny vacation with her sun-kissed glow. But, complexion aside, I can’t stop thinking about her outfit, which includes a menswear-esque white button-down that she wore with a loose tie, top coat with satin lapels, and black satin trousers, arguably the chicest take on the trending pants silhouette.

We know that trousers are trending; in fact, Sofía Vergara just stepped out in her version of the big, baggy bottoms, also while out and about in New York City. Vergara’s were far more casual, with a slightly roomier leg and easygoing fabric, whereas Ripa’s are more elegant. And while you might be asking, “But Eva, isn’t a trouser just a trouser?” I say no. The look varies based on the design and material, and Ripa’s are more refined because they’re crafted from a silky satin, an inherently elegant fabric that gives trousers an elevated feel. So, if you want to get in on the big pants trend but don’t want it to feel too casual, Ripa’s option is the perfect way to do just that. You can also juxtapose styles by pairing silky trousers with a fitted white tee and sneakers for a high-low look you can wear to the office or out for drinks.

Ripa styled her silky trousers with sleek black boots, but honestly, the bottoms work with just about any footwear imaginable: sneakers, Mary Janes, sandals, or even break-your-heel pumps. Trust me when I say that you simply can’t go wrong with any type of trouser, though this Ripa sighting has me itching to invest in a silky, quietly sexy satin pair that reads elegant with very little effort.
