Kelly Ripa fires back at troll who said she 'looks too old' for husband Mark Consuelos

Mark Consuelos’s latest Instagram post has stirred up a lot of drama — and his wife, Kelly Ripa, has been caught in the crossfire.

Over the weekend, the Riverdale actor posted a photo of himself in support of the #HeForShe movement for gender equality. The show of solidarity for women prompted Ripa, his wife of 22 years, to comment, “You make me proud.”

One Consuelos fan couldn’t resist taking a potshot at the smitten spouse, however.

“Yes, he is so handsome,” one woman replied to Ripa. “But you need to go, Kelly. You look to [sic] old for him. Sorry but you do.”

Ouch. Ripa — who took on trolls earlier this year after being shamed for wearing a bikini at age 47 — didn’t miss a beat when it came to putting the age shamer in her place.

“You need to learn how to spell the word too sweetie,” the talk show host, who turns 48 on Oct. 2, shot back. “As in you’re too stupid to be with my young, handsome husband. Ps, he likes proper grammar as well you dope.”

That settles that. Fans applauded Ripa’s defiant response.

“I don’t even know you, your husband, or the troll that wrote that trash and I know I like you and [Consuelos] soooooo much more!” a fan replied.

But it wasn’t the only controversy surrounding the post. While #HeForShe — which gained momentum after Emma Watson’s 2014 United Nations speech urging men to join the fight for women’s rights — is about establishing gender equality, many of the actor’s fans misunderstood his message.

“You don’t support equal pay for women?” Consuelos, 47, asked a fan who announced she was “done” following him. “I think, by your profile pic, that you are a woman. I assume you have a daughter or granddaughters? Do you think they should be paid equally?”

Others chastised Consuelos for “voicing [his] political opinion”; some insisted that men and women “already are equal”; and one person seemed to think that #HeForShe flew in the face of Christianity.

“No!!!! God made men to be men and women to be women period!!” wrote the angry commenter in all-caps.

Consuelos’s response: “Oh, sweetie.”

Long story short: Ripa’s not here for age shaming, and Consuelos is going to be as political — if, indeed, supporting gender equality is all that political — as he likes.
