Kelly Rutherford Fetes Mithridate x LuisaViaRoma Capsule Launch in Paris

TOAST TO PARIS: Mithridate, the Guangzhou-based fashion label that has been showing in London off schedule, took on Paris on Tuesday night with a cozy dinner at the Bastille Design Center to commemorate its inaugural capsule collaboration with the Florentine luxury retailer LuisaViaRoma.

Attendees included “Gossip Girl” star Kelly Rutherford, who has been declaring herself a fan of the Chinese label since she attended the brand’s fall 2024 show alongside “All of Us Strangers” lead Andrew Scott, enjoyed a poetic harp performance before sitting down.

“Mithridate has been an incredible discovery. I’m glad it’s really growing and expanding here. The brand is very magical,” said Rutherford, who wore a modernized asymmetrical Qipao in black.

Rutherford added that despite never having been to China, she would love to go meet her fans there.

Coincidentally, Mithridate’s younger sister line Mithworld will show during the upcoming Shanghai Fashion Week in April. It’s possible that Rutherford could travel to China to discover what her newfound favorite brand does for its younger offering.

With the LuisaViaRoma capsule, the brand, which was named after King Mithridates VI of Pontus, who allegedly attempted suicide by poison but survived due to his immunity to the drug, said it hopes to further raise its awareness in the West with its “more is more” aesthetic.

“Personally, I am fond of street elements in design and style. Street fashion embodies cultural fusion. It’s vibrant, imaginative and never conventional. So, sometimes I try to incorporate a street attitude to deal with the conflict and fusion between East and West, as well as tradition and trend,” said Demon Zhang, creative director of Mithridate.

For the capsules, Zhang said the brand incorporated “patchwork and woven textures of auspicious clouds and gourd patterns onto denim jackets, while balancing the complex patterns with an oversize silhouette.”

Earlier this month, the brand released its fall 2024 collection “Vita Aeterna” in London, exploring themes of time, identity, and fate.

Opening with the concept of time, the brand utilized thick velvets, metallic coatings, bejeweled embroidery, and three-dimensional florals on luxurious evening numbers. The identity part was flooded with crimson, coral pink, and rose gold with leather weaving, hand-cut flowers, chain hardware and detailed rhinestone embellishments. The fate chapter focused on moonlight tones that mirrored shattered glass.

From March 8, LuisaViaRoma will host an in-store pop-up for the Mithridate capsule at its Via Roma flagship in Florence to present the pieces in real life.
