KFC Has an All-New Menu Item—and We Tried It First

It's a first-of-its-kind collab for the chain.

From the dawn of its creation, KFC’s “finger-lickin' good” chicken has always been about letting the 11 herbs and spices shine. Whatever KFC puts into that Original Recipe spice blend creates the ultimate breading for its fried chicken, chicken nuggets, and chicken tenders.

Before its Saucy Nuggets release, the crispy breaded chicken has always been the star of the show. Only ever serving its chicken tenders and nuggets with dipping sauces and topping its sandwiches with a thick layer of your go-to condiment.

However, following the immense success of Saucy Nuggets, and its subsequent flavor releases, KFC is adding sauce to its chicken tenders and fried chicken for the first time ever. But it’s not just any sauce, Kentucky Fried Chicken is teaming up with America’s favorite sweet and spicy condiment for a new menu item.

KFC Debuts Mike's Hot Honey Collab

On Feb. 10, KFC is launching a new collaboration with Mike’s Hot Honey. KFC is adding the “swicy” condiment to its chicken tenders, fried chicken, nuggets, and sandwiches for a limited time. Unlike its Saucy Nuggets, the tenders and fried chicken will only receive a drizzle of Mike’s Hot Honey to elevate the crispy chicken with a sweet heat—rather than coating the chicken completely.

Additionally, the KFC x Mike’s Hot Honey collab drops with two all-new $7 value meals. For $7, you can get a Three-Piece Original Recipe Tenders box, featuring chicken tenders drizzled with hot honey, your choice of side, and a buttery biscuit, or a Two-Piece Fried Chicken box, which includes two pieces of fried chicken—either Original Recipe or Extra Crispy—drizzled with hot honey, your choice of side, and a biscuit.

Plus, if you’re feeding a crowd, KFC is releasing a Fan Favorite’s Box, which includes four pieces of bone-in fried chicken drizzled with Mike’s Hot Honey, 12 chicken nuggets, Secret Recipe fries, four biscuits, and your choice of four sauces, all for just $25.

The Mike’s Hot Honey-laden menu items will hit restaurants nationwide on Feb. 10; however, KFC is letting customers try them early for Super Bowl Sunday on Feb. 9. If you order via Doordash, UberEats, or GrubHub, you can try the new items before they officially hit menus.

I tried the KFC x Mike’s Hot Honey collaboration before it hit menus—and delivery apps—here is my honest review.

My Honest Review

As someone who enjoys KFC’s Saucy Nuggets, I was excited to try a new sauced-up chicken from the brand—and the Mike’s Hot Honey collab did not disappoint.

I tried the nuggets and chicken tenders and they both had a decent coating of hot honey—but not too much that the OG peppery chicken recipe couldn’t still shine through. If you’re worried about spice levels, don’t be. The hot honey chicken is more honey chicken than spicy chicken, so it has a good balance of flavors.

The most important thing is that the Mike’s Hot Honey tenders still taste delicious in KFC’s comeback sauce, which makes them an instant win for me. I do hope for true swicy lovers, though, that KFC will offer additional Mike’s Hot Honey packets for customers who want to really sauce up their chicken with the sweet-and-spicy condiment.
