Khloé Kardashian Shared an Update on Her Cheek Indentation Following Her Surprising Melanoma Diagnosis
Khloé Kardashian is getting candid about her skin cancer journey and expressing gratitude to the medical team who helped her throughout her recovery.
"For those who do not know I had a skin cancer scare on my face," the Good American founder began one of her first slides in a series of Instagram Stories on September 19. "My angel @garthmd is who I trusted with removing the tumor. Dr. Fischer is out of this world Fabulous! Not only did he remove the tumor and made sure that I am completely cancer free but he did such a f*cking stellar job on making my scar as small and beautiful as possible," she continued. "Thank you so much, Garth! You know I adore you."
Then, Khloé subsequently shared an image of what she identified as the "small spec of melanoma" that she got removed. "Yes that tiny dot that I thought was a pimple for almost a year," she wrote.
Then, in yet another snap that showcased the results of the reality TV star undergoing surgery to get the melanoma removed—a procedure that resulted in approximately four inches of stitches on her cheek—, Khloé shared, "I know this looks crazy and pretty massive, which it was, but for all good reason. @garthmd made sure to protect the stitches and make sure everything was as flat as possible so there was no stretching of the scar, incision area, and we tried to avoid keloiding (thick, raised scar tissue) as much as possible. He's just the best."
Once her tumor was removed and the wound healed, the celeb noted that she was left with an "indentation on the side of my face" that she waited "over nine months" to get filled. "I am definitely not complaining because I would rather have an indention than melanoma any day," she added.
Then, once Khloé got injectable fillers, she showcased some before-and-after snaps of her face to show her fans how much of a difference they made.
"I look insane in these pics but I'm just so happy that my face is slowly coming back together ha! I don't even know how else to word this," she gushed.
"With over 5 million cases diagnosed in the United States each year, skin cancer is America's most common cancer. Fortunately, skin cancer is also one of the most preventable cancers. By sharing facts about the dangers of unprotected sun exposure and encouraging people to check their skin for warning sign I encourage everyone to reach out to their dermatologist and get yearly (or more like me) skin cancer checks," she concluded in her Stories.
"Since telling my story and talking about my experience I have received so many messages from people who felt compelled to go to the doctor for a check up! I never imagined that this tiny spec would turn into skin cancer and I can't fathom what could have possibly happened had I not gone to the doctor to get it looked at. Paying attention to our skin and any changes in our skin and our body, no matter how small, is so important," she added.
