'To Kill A Mockingbird' Author Harper Lee Dies At 89
AL.com reports author Harper Lee has died in her hometown of Monroeville, Alabama, at the age of 89. A county coroner confirmed her death to EW.
Lee is most well known for her revolutionary, Pulitzer Prize-winning 1960 novel To Kill a Mockingbird, but made headlines early last year when she published the book's sequel, Go Set a Watchman. Lee was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2007 for her outstanding contribution to literature.
"I hope to goodness that every novel I do gets better and better," Lee told Roy Newquist in a 1964 interview: "I would like to leave some record of the kind of life that existed in a very small world."
AL.com described Lee as a "guardedly private individual," who was "respected and protected" by Monroeville residents. The site also reports services for Lee have not yet been announced.
