King Charles Pens Powerful Letter on the Anniversary of Russia's Invasion of Ukraine

King Charles is once again showing his support for Ukraine. In a new letter, released on the anniversary of the Russian invasion of the country, Charles praised Ukrainians for their courage and resilience, and shared how the United Kingdom "is doing everything possible to help at this most difficult time."

When war broke out last year, Charles described the Russian invasion of Ukraine as "brutal aggression," and visited the Ukrainian Catholic Cathedral to show support for the country. Earlier this month, he met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky at Buckingham Palace.

Just this week, the king visited "an undisclosed location in southwest England where Ukrainian military recruits are being trained," per the BBC. There, he took in training exercises and met with troops. "You are amazing, I don’t know how you do it. I am full of admiration," King Charles told a senior Ukrainian officer.

"To hear that The King was coming to visit was very exciting, not only for the Ukrainian recruits but also for those of us who are training them," Captain Freddie Bradshaw, Company Second in Command, 1st Battalion Irish Guards, said. "It means a lot to us all to know that he is keen to understand what is taking place here."

It has now been a year that the people of Ukraine have suffered unimaginably from an unprovoked full-scale attack on their nation. They have shown truly remarkable courage and resilience in the face of such human tragedy. The world has watched in horror at all the unnecessary suffering inflicted upon Ukrainians, many of whom I have had the great pleasure of meeting here in the U.K. and, indeed, across the world, from Romania to Canada.

Earlier this month I met President Zelenskyy at Buckingham Palace to express my personal support for the people of Ukraine. It is heartening that the United Kingdom, along with its allies, is doing everything possible to help at this most difficult time. Therefore, I can only hope the outpouring of solidarity from across the globe may bring not only practical aid, but also strength from the knowledge that, together, we stand united.
