KitchenAid's 2025 Colour of the Year is an instant mood-booster
KitchenAid’s famous stand mixer is arguably the ultimate culinary companion. Admired for its versatility (from grinding meat to kneading dough), it’s also loved for its sleek, elegant design and endless range of colours.
For seven years, KitchenAid has announced its Colour of the Year, and 2025 is probably its brightest one yet with the unveiling of Butter – a modern, soft, energising yellow.
Adding a sense of delight to every space, KitchenAid's new buttery yellow tone ignites feelings of warmth and optimism, helping to ignite nostalgic memories and spark joy.

‘We know that butter yellow evokes feelings of warmth and joy, rather like a warm embrace. In the colour development phase, we wanted to ensure that Butter captured these emotions while also feeling fresh and modern in the home,’ says Brittni Pertijs, colour, finish and material manager at Whirlpool. 'While Butter echoes past kitchens, it feels fresh and modern, leaning into present-day design trends. It is a classic neutral that will last over the years, working well in any home, from eclectic and traditional styles to clean and contemporary spaces.'

The KitchenAid stand mixer is a cult favourite too. From Nigella Lawson (remember her viral copper mixer?) to the Bake Off tent, this appliance takes pride of place on kitchen worktops or, when not in use, it's left 'on show' in pantries and glass-fronted cabinets.
Why yellow is impossible to overlook
Comforting, joyful and stimulating, yellow is the perfect hue to make cooking and meal preparation even more enjoyable, but it's not surprising to see the shade dominating colour trends. With a huge shift towards mood-boosting interiors and dopamine decorating in recent years, yellow is most definitely leading the way. Dulux has also championed this citrus hue, with True Joy, a warm, feel-good sunny yellow, announced as its Colour of the Year 2025, signalling a desire to create happier, more vibrant living spaces.
'When we think of yellow, we think of hazy summer days, ripe and zesty lemons, and vibrant sunflowers: so much of yellow is tied to nature’s finest and most familiar offerings and can be used to energise us in the same way habitual sea blues and forest greens calm us,' explains Marianne Shillingford, creative director at Dulux.
Warm buttery yellows in particular are hitting the mainstream, and it was a prominent colour on the catwalk for New York Fashion Week’s SS25 shows. 'Butter is the ultimate new neutral in this playful take on colour,' says Becca Stern, co-founder and creative director of colourful furniture brand Mustard Made. 'Golden, sunny, creamy and delicious, this mellow yellow gives a modern update to a retro shade. With a timeless air and an undeniable nod to luxury, Butter is here to stay, and she’s no side-dish! She's a main meal.'
Whether it's through eye-catching appliances, a vibrant splashback, or furniture and accessories, yellow is a brilliant colour to introduce into the kitchen and throughout the home for a much-needed burst of energy all year round.
