For his next big project, it's no surprise Billy Baldwin picked a TV show all about family. The actor is starring in a new Netflix series Northern Rescue as a search-and-rescue commander and widowed father of three teenagers, and while he may not pull people out of ravines in real life, the depicted challenges of parenting adolescents come from a very real place.

"The show really is about what it means to be a family today," Baldwin recently told TV Insider. "My family in the show is girl, boy, girl, and [in real life] I have girl, boy, girl. It’s a very similar spread. I have an 19, 17, and 14-year-old, and my kids on the show are 17, 15, and 13." Coincidence? We think not.

Here's everything you need to know about Billy Baldwin's actual family - including wife Chynna Phillips; kids Jameson, Vane, and Brooke; plus the famous Baldwin brothers - ahead of watching the new show, out now on Netflix.

Who Is Billy Baldwin married to?

Chynna Phillips married her husband in 1995, four years after they met. She's best known as a member of soft rock group Wilson Phillips alongside sisters Carnie and Wendy Wilson. In 1990, the band was nominated for five Grammy Awards and two American Music Awards for their eponymous debut album. Chynna grew up around music, too. Her parents, Michelle and John Phillips, famously belonged to '60s folk group The Mamas & the Papas. More recently, Chynna appeared as a contestant on Dancing With the Stars and made a cameo in the movie Bridesmaids.

As a couple, Billy says he and Chynna "divide and conquer" when it comes to parenting - a factor that influenced how he played his character John West. "In the show, I lose my wife and it’s like losing your arm," he told TV Insider. "All of a sudden, you’re responsible for all of these duties and you’re wearing all the hats now."

Who are Billy Baldwin's children?

Billy and Chynna have three children together:

  • Jameson, born in 2000

  • Vance, born in 2002

  • Brooke, born in 2004

Parenting three teenage kids actually inspired Billy to pitch the show to Netflix and the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation. "We’re attempting to define what it means to be a family today and you need to get into all the stuff that kids get into," he said. "You need to get into possibly violence, definitely sex, definitely drugs, kids getting arrested. It’s going to be a modern day, contemporary look at what parents and children are struggling with."

His real-life fam seems just as tight-knit. The proud dad is always posting cute pics of his kids on Instagram:

How many siblings are in the Baldwin family?

The Baldwin family includes six siblings: Alec, Daniel, William, and Stephen, and two sisters, Elizabeth Baldwin Keuchler and Jane Baldwin Sasso. The four Baldwin brothers are the best known part of the clan though. They are:

Alec Baldwin, born in 1958, is the oldest. He starred in movies like Beetlejuice, The Hunt for Red October, Glengarry Glen Ross, The Aviator, and The Departed, plus NBC shows like 30 Rock and Saturday Night Live. He has five children, one with ex-wife Kim Basinger and four with his current wife, Hilaria Thomas.

Daniel Baldwin, born in 1960, starred in Mulholland Falls, Vampires, Grey Gardens, and The Wisdom to Know the Difference. He has five children with four different partners.

William, born in 1963, is best known for films like Flatliners, Backdraft, Sliver, Virus, and The Squid and the Whale. Billy also appeared with siblings Stephen and Daniel in the movie Born on the Fourth of July.

Stephen, born in 1966, is the youngest. You known him from The Usual Suspects and reality shows like Celebrity Apprentice. He has two daughters with wife Kennya Deodato: models Alaia and Hailey. Hailey is married to Justin Bieber.

The brothers grew up in Long Island, New York. Their dad Alexander Baldwin, Jr., a high school teacher and football coach, died at age 56, so mom Carol played a big role in their upbringing. She never remarried - a fact that Billy cited as inspiration for his role as a widower.

"My father died when I was 19 years old in real life, and my mom was around 50, and I always hoped and wished that my mother would find companionship again," he said. "If I could do it all over again I literally would’ve played Cupid. That could be a storyline for my kids [on the show]. If we feel we’ve all gone through an appropriate amount of grieving, maybe one of my kids would try to set me up."
