Lake Murray is getting a new restaurant from the owners of Cafe Strudel. Check out where

There soon will be a new place to grab a bite on Lake Murray, and it’s coming from the owners of a pair of well-known Midlands eateries.

SouthShore Grill & Grocery, a restaurant and market, is being prepped at 3106 US 378 in Leesville, at the SouthShore Marina. The new restaurant is being developed by Trip and Marila Turbyfill, who own the Cafe Strudel restaurants in West Columbia and Lexington.

Trip Turbyfill told The State that SouthShore Grill & Grocery will likely open to the public in the next 3-4 weeks. The grill has been sharing updates on its progress on social media.

The area of U.S. 378 where the new restaurant is coming has continued to see growth development alongside Lake Murray, which is perhaps the Midlands’ foremost natural resource. Businesses in the area include Murphy’s Grill, a San Jose Mexican restaurant, and a Captain’s Choice boat dealership, among others.

“It’s something sorely needed out that way,” Trip Turbyfill said of SouthShore Grill. “As you know, there’s a very limited selection (of restaurants) and a lot of people live out there.”

While Cafe Strudel has long been known in the Midlands for its breakfast and brunch, SouthShore Grill will initially focus on lunch and dinner offerings, Turbyfill said, although he noted the lakeside eatery would likely add breakfast hours once the business finds its footing.

The lunch and dinner menu will feature seafood items, Turbyfill said, as well as steaks, salads, appetizers and more. He said there will also be “catfish wings,” which are catfish nuggets in a Buffalo sauce.

“We are going to try to do things a little bit differently, a little bit elevated, but nothing fancy, by any means,” Turbyfill said. “People will be really surprised with our space and the layout. We’ll have indoor and outdoor dining, and we’ve got a great view of the marina.”
