Lay’s Has a New Chip Flavor That’s Only Available at Costco

Get those Costco membership cards ready.

Lay’s sure knows how to keep us coming back for more. Obviously, its ever-popular classic potato chips and sour cream and onion varieties are never going out of style, but most trips that were meant to restock our salt and vinegar stash usually end with us grabbing a few extra bags of the newest Lay’s flavor on the shelves.

Currently, we’ve been fixated on the four returning “Flavor That Hits Home” Lay’s—if you haven’t tried the Crispy Taco chips, you’re really missing out—and all the new things coming from Doritos. But, we recently learned about a new Lay’s flavor that already has us planning our trip to the store. Sadly, though, it might just require a flight.

Lay's Honey Butter Chips Hit Costco

Lay’s new Honey Butter-flavored potato chips have hit Costco stores in the U.S. for the first time ever. Like so many great Lay’s flavors (looking at you, All Dressed), the Honey Butter chips have previously been available in South Korea and Canada. We know, we’re scratching our heads, too. Yes, Lay’s and PepsiCo are U.S.-based companies, and yet we get left out of so many great launches. Make it make sense.

Regardless, the slightly sweet and buttery potato chips have been a fan favorite in South Korea for over 10 years, where Haitai Honey Butter Chips are a beloved snack. Canada only just got the chips a few weeks ago, but we’re still jealous because they’re hitting multiple retailers across Canada. Meanwhile, we in the U.S. will not only have to have a Costco membership, but also live in the San Francisco Bay Area to try the Korean-inspired flavor.

That’s right, Lay’s has confirmed that the Honey Butter potato chips are only available at Costco stores in the Bay Area for a limited time.

Don’t start packing your suitcase just yet, though, because there’s always a chance Lay’s could roll out the chips nationwide—especially if the flavor gets enough traction. Worse comes to worse, you can always try to find the Haitai version at an Asian grocery store like HMart or online. It might not be the same as the Lay’s, but until they bring the flavor nationwide, you gotta do what you gotta do.
