Let’s go glamping. Take a look inside the ‘Ultimate RV Show’ in Myrtle Beach this weekend.

Camping has come a long way since the days of musty tents and smokey campfires.

In fact, it has come so far that the Merriam-Webster dictionary published a relatively new term to describe that luxury that modern campers can frequently experience - glamping. Glamping means “outdoor camping with amenities and comforts (such as beds, electricity, and access to indoor plumbing) not usually used when camping.”

The glamping lifestyle can be seen in all of it’s glory at the Myrtle Beach Convention Center this weekend at The Ultimate RV Show hosted by Camping World and Good Sam.

According to Nick Nichols, the general manager of Camping World Myrtle Beach, more than a hundred travel trailers, fifth wheels, and motor homes are on display.

Nichols said he promotes the camping lifestyle, noting that there are camp sites all over the Myrtle Beach area. But he points out that some of the fifth-wheel trailers he sells are comfortable even for full-time living, which would qualify for the term glamping.

The RVs on display here range from $30,000 travel trailers to almost $200,000 motor homes. Some of the fifth-wheel trailers feature outdoor projectors, elevated porches, and sleeping lofts over living rooms suitable for family game nights.

On Thursday, hundreds of would-be owners and their kids wandered through the models on display, noting the near-full-size kitchens, testing the recliners, and climbing the multi-level staircases.

The Ultimate RV Show is a sales event, free to the public, at the Myrtle Beach Convention Center on Friday, May 31, and Saturday, June 1, from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Sunday, June 2, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
