Lexington’s latest trend? Sip and shop. New places to drink, make flowers, candles

What could make flower shopping or candle-making more relaxing? How about a glass of wine? Or a nice cocktail?

Now there are three new non-traditional places in Lexington to grab a drink while you do something fun.

They’re part of a new dining and drinking trend that’s popular for bridal showers, birthday parties, girls’ nights out or just for fun with friends: Call it crafting with craft cocktails.

So get ready to unwind with some pals and maybe you’ll come home with a bouquet or some great smelling candles.

Poppy’s Flower Bar is soft opening this week just off Tates Creek Road next to GRO Salon, with a grand opening coming at the end of August. .

Owner Shelby White, who also owns White Cat Weddings and Events, said she’d always loved the concept of a flower bar, a combination cocktail bar and a flower shop.

“We’ll have wine and specialty cocktails,” White said. “I’m working on a list of cocktails all named after flowers.”

The shop will sell local blooms and customers can create their own arrangement on site or order one already made. The shop also will have jewelry, art, prints and more from local creators as well.

Hours: Open Tuesday-Thursday 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Friday and Saturday 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Closed Sunday and Monday.

Poppy & Pomelo and Wick + Mortar

Poppy + Pomelo, a boutique that sells a little bit of everything from cards and stationery to fun kitchen towels and jewelry, merged with Wick + Mortar Studio.

They present craft classes with cocktails and now are adding a bigger crafting studio.

Co-owners Marin Fisk and Cami Riske began serving wine and cocktails last November. The bigger Wick + Mortar studio space, which will open in August, will allow them to expand mixology classes and host more group events.

Hours: Open Wednesday through Sunday from mid-afternoon into the evening. Drop-ins welcome and group reservations also available.

Elleigh & Claire Marketplace

656 E. Main St., 859-359-6401

Owner Estee Laughary opened bricks-and-mortar location Elleigh & Claire, of an online boutique that she’d been running for about five years, offering clothing, housewares and gifts.

In the back, there is a lounge area and a do-it-yourself candle bar where wine and beers are served. “Right now we have red and white wines, beer, seltzers and cider, as well as $5 mimosas,” Laughary said.

Hours: Open Wednesday noon to 6 p.m., Thursday 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., Friday and Saturday 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Sunday noon to 7 p.m.
