Psychology researchers found that most people tend to agree on what makes them feel loved — and it’s not showy gestures like bunches of flowers.

Instead, Penn State researchers found that small gestures, such as showing compassion, top the list of what most people say makes them feel loved.

Controlling behavior — such as wanting to know where people were at all times — is at the bottom of the list, the researchers said.

The researchers surveyed 455 Americans about how much they would feel loved in 60 different scenarios.

Saeideh Heshmati, a postdoctoral research scholar, said, “Whether we feel loved or not plays an important role in how we feel from day to day.

“Our results show that people do agree, and the top scenarios that came back weren’t necessarily romantic. So it is possible for people to feel loved in simple, everyday scenarios. It doesn’t have to be over-the-top gestures.”
