It’s my favorite time of year again — no, not the holidays (though I do love the festive season). I’m referring specifically to what feels like the Super Bowl for home design editors: end-of-year trend predictions. Apartment Therapy just released its fifth-annual trend report, The State of Home Design, which gives an overview on where the pros think interiors are headed next year. Pantone just announced the Color of the Year for 2025 this morning, and today, Pinterest dropped its yearly Pinterest Predicts report.

What I love most about Pinterest Predicts, aside from the visual eye candy they release alongside the trends, is that all of these findings come from user-generated, search-backed data. So there’s an extra layer of democratic design baked into their methodology and findings. Plus, I enjoy seeing how much overlap exists between the worlds of beauty, home, fashion, and travel.

New for this year? Exciting “trend drops” with a handful of consumer brands, including Wayfair, Urban Outfitters, and Marriott Bonvoy, to bring the trends to life as exclusive products, giveaways, and one-of-a-kind experiences. Check out the Pinterest app for more details. Here I’m sharing four of the most exciting trends, according to Pinterest. Next year is shaping up to be bold, bright, and one for the books, at least where home decor is concerned.

Cherry Coded

If 2024 was the year of pops of red, thanks to the Unexpected Red Theory, you can count on cherry to be a full color crush for 2025. Searches for “cherry bedroom” are up 100%, while “dark cherry color” is up 235% year over year. Want to bring the drama? Drench a sleep space in this bold hue. Or you can incorporate different red furniture and decorative accessories as shown here, from a bar cart to glassware and tabletop accessories.

Mix and Maximalist

Maximalism has gotten increasingly popular over the past few years, so it’s no surprise that the more-is-more aesthetic is resonating with Pinterest users, too. Searches for “eclectic maximalism” are up 215%, topped by “vintage maximalism” at 260%. Think layering, design-rule-breaking pattern clashing, and all things texture to achieve this look in your space.

Rococo Revival

From Bridgerton to elaborate Marie Antoinette-inspired tiered cakes, everything is coming up romance right now. And that’s what the “Rococo Revival” trend is all about. Expect to see frills, ornamentation, and gilded accents all over celebrations, interiors, and even outfits next year. And if you aren’t familiar with this fancy late Baroque period, you can read all up on Rococo design to acquaint yourself ASAP.
