New logos for Penn State’s Nittany Lion are coming. Here’s how you can get merch with it
Penn State fans will soon have a new line of merchandise to pick from as the university launches new logos and a signature mark for its iconic mascot, the Nittany Lion.
The university announced the new logos in a news article Monday, as part of an effort to “update and modernize” the Nittany Lion’s brand. With the launch, merchandise with the first logos in a series — a full body, head and signature mark — will be available ahead of Penn State’s home football game against UCLA this weekend.
New colorways, imprint options and poses will increase merchandise options, the article states. The initial product line will be at The Family Clothesline, 352 E. College Ave., State College, beginning Oct. 4. Products will include mugs, stickers and decals, apparel, hats, giftware and more.
The Nittany Lion will be at The Family Clothesline from 4:15-5 p.m. Oct. 4 to sign autographs and take photos.
After the launch, the new Nittany Lion products will be available across all retail locations that offer Penn State merchandise, the release states.
The idea for the Nittany Lion mascot was formed in April 1904 and has been part of Penn State’s identity since then, Rachel Pell, vice president for strategic communications, said in the release.
“The Nittany Lion mascot has been a mainstay to the image of Penn State for 120 years, embodying the ‘We Are’ spirit and cultivating pride from the classroom to the athletics fields,” she said. ”I’m excited to introduce to the Penn State community a fresh take on our beloved Nittany Lion, especially the highly requested signature, which can now be shared with the broader Penn State audience through stickers and decals.”
