Take a look, dog owners — conditioner for fur recalled after mold developed in bottles

The possibility of bacterial contamination, hammered home by mold being found in some bottles, got 102,250 bottles of FURminator deShedding Ultra Premium Dog Conditioner recalled in the United States and Canada.

The problem, as stated by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission recall notice: “The recalled conditioner can contain bacteria, including pseudomonas aeruginosa, an environmental organism found widely in soil and water. People with weakened immune systems or external medical devices who are exposed to pseudomonas aeruginosa face a risk of serious infection that may require medical treatment. The bacteria can enter the body if inhaled, through the eyes, or through a break in the skin.

“People with healthy immune systems are usually not affected by the bacteria.”

Spectrum Brands Pet Care “has received four reports of mold developing in the container.”

This covers 1-gallon bottles from lot No. 211102 (without a pump) and lot Nos. 220402 and 240152 (with a pump).

Spectrum Brands wants customers to stop using the conditioner and is offering refunds.
