Fast becoming an independent film screen queen, Dakota Johnson has signed on to star in the follow-up to this year's will-they-won't-they romantic drama, Past Lives.

Celine Song's follow-up film to her directorial debut, which is also believed to have cast Pedro Pascal and Chris Evans, is called Materialists and is a New York-based rom-com following a high-end matchmaker who gets involved with a wealthy man. The roles that Johnson, Pascal and Evans would be playing have not been disclosed but, appearing at the Toronto International Film Festival earlier this month, Johnson discussed the role for the first time.

Without revealing much about Materialists, Johnson said in a conversation with Collider that she had 'the most amazing time' working with Song. 'I am deeply in love with her, and with her as a director, as a filmmaker, as a human,' she teased, without revealing anymore about the project, which is rumoured to be entering production in May 2025.

Loser Baby, which is 23-minutes long, follows a group of LA-based friends, led by actor Talia Bernstein, who also wrote the script. Bernstein’s character Lizzie is frustrated by the sexless plateau of her long-term relationship—a situation she bemoans to her best friend, played by Blake Lee, that reaches a kind of zenith at a birthday party for another friend, played by Ashley Madekwe.
