Luar Gave Their Models Feather Fingertips

Move over, ’90s minimalism; ’80s maximalism is here, and Luar’s fall/winter 2025 show proves it. Pulling from the ultra glamorous era—referencing Claudia Schiffer for Guess Jeans and Naomi Campbell for Versace, and blending it with the rawness of underground club drag—the brand’s beauty look this season was far from the simple makeup we’ve become accustomed to seeing on the runways. It was the perfect choice for Luar, a brand that consistently goes against the grain and gives a fresh perspective, especially where beauty is concerned.
Makeup artist Terry Barber aimed to mix opulence and grit to create the arresting look. “We didn’t want it to look too clean, we wanted it to have an edge, kind of like she did her makeup in a taxi on the way to the club,” Barber says. “This is a pure celebration of boldness, regardless of tastes or opinions from others.”
To achieve this, Barber used MAC Studio Fix Fluid SPF 15 Foundation to get a flawless base. For the smokey eyes, he went in with Studio Radiance Concealer in NW5 to prep before utilizing the MAC Eyeshadows in Gesso, Scene, and Print. Lastly, he applied MAC Eye Kohl Pencil in Feline and used Fox False Lashes for the final touch.
The hair at Luar’s runway also channeled the ’80s. Celebrity hairstylist Jawara brought the tousled, messy spirit of punk styles into the contemporary by sculpting hair into a backcombed mullet with a literal twist. Usually mullets are business in the front and party in the back, but Jawara’s version is doing the opposite by featuring messy front pieces and a refined chignon in the rear. He brushed the models’ hair back into a tight bun using the TRESemmé A-List Collection Smoothing Cream and TRESemmé Extra Hold Gel. It was held in place using the TRESemmé A-List Collection Styling Stick and TRESemmé Extra Hold Hair Spray. Curled and teased extensions were then seamlessly pinned on top of the bun to create the frayed look. Some models also sported slicked-back buns and cornrow braids. To finish it off, each model’s style was sprayed with TRESemmé’s new Signature Hair Fragrance, which left a trail of sandalwood and vanilla scented air on the runway.
The nails had a quintessentially ’80s flare with opulent accessories and eye-catching designs. Nail artist Naomi Yasuda painstakingly hand-crafted the nails herself, adorning them with feathers, pearls, crystals, and zebra prints. After years of the clean girl aesthetic, leaning into bold beauty is a refreshing shift. As the old saying goes, sometimes in order to move forward, you have to look back.
