"Our fireplace is definitely the showpiece of the open living area, so I wanted to keep the holiday decor fairly simple to let the architecture of the fireplace shine," Courtney describes of her holiday decor strategy. Credit: Courtney BattenCredit: Courtney Batten
"For our Christmas decor I wanted to lean into the natural and vintage vibe of our home with lots of greenery, disco balls, and vintage Christmas decor from the '50s and '60s." Credit: Courtney BattenCredit: Courtney Batten
"I especially love how the disco ball ornaments reflect the morning light around the room," Courtney continues. Credit: Courtney BattenCredit: Courtney Batten
"Our vintage aluminum Christmas tree perfectly complements our 1956 home, and it's so much more sparkly than the plastic tinsel ones of today. It was a lucky find, as aluminum trees this large are getting harder and harder to find."
"A word of warning — these cannot have lights strung on them, as it is a fire hazard, so use a period-accurate color wheel to light the tree instead," Courtney advises. Credit: Courtney BattenCredit: Courtney Batten
Courtney says the living room is "without a doubt" her favorite space in the house. "[T]he previous owner painted the fireplace white and my husband painstakingly stripped the paint off after being told by multiple contractors that it couldn't be done." "Every time I walk into the room it makes me happy to see the original mahogany paneling in all its glory in the light-filled space. The project was featured on Apartment Therapy earlier this year!" Credit: Courtney BattenCredit: Courtney Batten
"Of course, I had to style our matching mahogany shelves for the holidays!" Courtney writes. Credit: Courtney BattenCredit: Courtney Batten
"One of my favorite pieces in our home is our vintage Marcel Breuer Cesca chairs my mother- in-law found at an estate sale. I had to have them recaned, but the craftsman who helped us confirmed that theses chairs are the Gavina Group version, so it feels like owning a little piece of history." "Our dining area is adjacent to our living area, so I wanted to keep the [holiday] decor similar. I styled our vintage dining table with natural cedar and included a few ornaments to add some color. We were lucky to find an extendable table, so it's perfect for our small dining nook when hosting for the holidays," Courtney writes. Credit: Courtney BattenCredit: Courtney Batten
"For our kitchen I hung a simple faux cedar garland with some homemade orange garland to add some color." Credit: Courtney BattenCredit: Courtney Batten
"Of course I always have to have a Christmas candle lit next to the sink so our whole home smells like the holidays!" Credit: Courtney BattenCredit: Courtney Batten
"I am an interior designer who specializes in historic home renovations and preserving the unique charm and character of these gems, so my design philosophy is definitely reflected in my own home," Courtney explains. Credit: Courtney BattenCredit: Courtney Batten
"I believe that when designing a space it's important to not force your own aesthetic upon it and instead blend the architecture of the home with your own style to create a cohesive and unique space." Credit: Courtney BattenCredit: Courtney Batten
“My husband and I bought our 1956 mid-century modern home in November of 2020 after searching for an untouched MCM gem for months,” begins Courtney Batten, owner of Paige Studio, about this 1500-square-foot house in Dallas, Texas.
"I draped natural cedar garland asymmetrically over the fireplace, added our fuzzy stockings, and added a few disco ball ornaments to the garland to shimmer in the morning sunlight," Courtney writes. Credit: Courtney BattenCredit: Courtney Batten
The house needed a lot of work, but Courtney says she and her husband knew it was the home for them, thanks to the “original terrazzo floors, wood paneling, and adorable period breeze-block carport.” The couple have tackled various home projects in the four years they’ve owned the house in order to “restore the home to its former glory, and are so excited to be able to make it a cozy space to host for the holidays.”
"I am slowly collecting vintage ceramic Christmas trees to display for the holidays," Courtney describes of recent purchases. Courtney shares that her mother-in-law found a "vintage color wheel for our 7' vintage aluminum Christmas tree. Those definitely bring the retro vibe to our home for the holidays, and I love that I will be able to continue to use them year after year." Credit: Courtney BattenCredit: Courtney Batten
“Our home is a modern reflection of the mid-century era; I wanted to stay true to the warm and earthy palettes that dominated modernist interiors by restoring and celebrating the natural wood in the fireplace and bringing in lots of plants and greenery,” Courtney writes. She advises that folks should “[t]hink about the architecture of your home as well as your own style; working with the character of your space instead of against it will allow you to create a truly unique and stunning space. Also, take your time! Our perfect home has been four years in the making, and we still have projects to tackle!”
Elon Musk has taken a massive swipe at President Donald Trump’s trade adviser amid the deepening economic chaos caused by the sweeping “Liberation Day” tariffs. In a Saturday X post, the Tesla CEO ripped Peter Navarro as someone who “ain’t built s--t” and shaded his Harvard PhD in economics as “a bad thing, not a good thing.” Musk, who’s openly expressed disdain for Ivy League institutions, commented, “yup” under a quote from U.S. economist Thomas Sowell that read: “In every disaster throughout
American farmers say U.S.-imposed tariffs on Canadian goods are having a "devastating effect" on the local agriculture sector south of the border. On Wednesday, U.S. President Donald Trump announced sweeping new tariffs for dozens of countries. Canada and Mexico were notably spared in this round, but previous 25 per cent tariffs on some Canadian products will remain. Some U.S. farmers say the tariffs are already making it harder for producers in their country, already long accustomed to hardship
Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz responded on Sunday to his former running mate Kamala Harris’s “told you so” quip, saying he would save his criticism for the campaign the two ran. Walz agreed with State of the Union host Jake Tapper on Sunday that Democrats’ 2024 message did not resonate with voters. Instead, he said, the party needed to band together to find an effective way of pushing back against President Donald Trump. Former Vice President Harris told a crowd at the Leading Women Defined Summit las

Billionaire hedge fund investor Bill Ackman, who endorsed President Trump last year, is offering a stark warning about the risks of the White House’s tariff plans, arguing they could cause the economy to collapse while hurting Trump supporters the most. “Business is a confidence game. In yet another episode of the long-running soap opera, “Meghan vs. The Commoners,” the Duchess of Sussex has found herself at the center of what the Daily Mail delicately describes as the “massive falling out” between Prince Harry and the CEO of his AIDS charity, Sophie Chandauka. Harry quit the charity last week after Chandauka accused him of bullying and harassment “at scale.” While much attention has focused on a video clip of Meghan Markle ordering Chandauka to move at a polo ceremony, the D
Republicans are starting to back away from the president after major fallout from his new tariffs. MAGA favorite Ted Cruz over the weekend spoke out about the devastating effects of Donald Trump’s disruptive economic policies, predicting a “bloodbath” in next year’s midterms if the current market collapse worsens. “If he leaves them in place and we just have constant tariffs, that is a massive tax increase on the American people,” Cruz dished on his podcast, Verdict. “I worry there are voices wi

A 49-year-old man wielding a blood-covered meat cleaver was shot and critically injured by New York City police officers on Sunday after allegedly stabbing four young girls believed to be his relatives in their home, authorities said. Two officers opened fire on the suspected attacker when they forced their way into the home and he allegedly ignored repeated orders to drop the bloody weapon and stepped toward the officers, NYPD Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch said at a news conference Sunday outside the home where the attack occurred. Tisch said officers found a "horrific scene" with the walls and floors spattered with blood when they arrived at the apartment in the Bensonhurst neighborhood of Brooklyn.
