Madelaine Petsch undergoes a hair transformation, debuting a 'midsummer shag'

The 'midsummer shag' just took on a whole new meaning thanks to Madelaine Petsch's recent hair transformation... confused, much? Well, get your heads out of the gutter, Brits and instead take yourself down to the local hair salon because the following is abouta make a strong case for the shorter cut.

29-year-old Riverdale alum, Madelaine, surprised fans earlier this week by cutting off her signature long, red locks and debuting a shoulder-length style. "Oops chopped my hair off," the actor candidly teases in the caption of her Instagram post showing off the dramatic new look.

Following the selfie, Madelaine shared a select few BTS moments from the big chop. "Okay, here we go," she says in the video as the first piece of hair is cut. "That's so scary!" the star adds.

The man behind the cut, celebrity hairstylist Marc Mena re-shared Madelaine's new look, coining it the 'midsummer shag'.

Now, despite its British connotations [...crickets...], in the context of hair, a shag – which first trended in the 70s – consists of rock 'n' roll layers. Traditionally these lengths sit between the collarbone and chest, and frame the face with shape and texture.

The actor's Riverdale co-star, Camila Mendes shared her love for this look in the comments of the above post. "I’ve been considering a chop and this may have just sealed the deal. It’s perfect 🥹," Cam wrote, foreseeing the masses' collective thoughts – myself included!
