A man is going viral after sharing that he plans on kicking out his roommate of two years due to his therapy dog, whom he says has turned his life "upside down."

In a post shared to Reddit, the 26-year-old man, who remains anonymous, says that he and his roommate Jake have "always gotten along well, and he’s been a decent roommate until recently."

After struggling with anxiety, Jake "got an emotional support dog, a small terrier mix," earlier this year, the poster writes.

"I was fine with it at first, even though I’m not a dog person, because I wanted to be supportive," he adds.

He continues: "The issue is that this dog has turned my life upside down. It barks constantly when Jake isn’t home, chews on furniture, and has accidents all over the place. I’ve tried talking to Jake about it, and he’s always apologetic, but nothing really changes. I’ve suggested dog training or even hiring a dog walker, but Jake claims he can’t afford it."

Now, the situation has reached a breaking point.

"It’s gotten to the point where I dread coming home because I know I’ll be dealing with the dog’s mess and noise," the man writes in the Reddit post. "I work long hours and really value my peace and quiet when I’m off, but that’s impossible now."

So he gave Jake an ultimatum: "either the dog goes, or he has to find a new place."

"Jake got really upset and said the dog is essential for his mental health, which I understand, but I didn’t sign up to live with a poorly behaved dog," he adds.

Since giving Jake the ultimatum, the roomates' relationship has been "super tense," the poster writes, with Jake calling him "heartless" and saying he is "punishing him for needing support."

"Some of our mutual friends agree with him, saying I should be more understanding since it’s a mental health issue, but I feel like I’m sacrificing my own well-being here," the man adds.

Other Reddit users have weighed in, with many arguing that Jake needs to get the dog properly trained.

"If Jake cannot afford to get the dog trained, then he cannot afford to own a dog. There are multitudes of other options for an emotional support pet that would not be as destructive and could be contained with little harm to the pet," writes one commenter.

Adds another: "If this dog is 'essential' for his mental health, he would be taking proper care of it. Don’t let this guy manipulate YOU into being the bad guy. It isn’t fair to YOU but it’s also not fair to the dog."
