  • A man admitted on Reddit that he told his wife she can’t cook

  • Her cooking, he said, was impacting their marriage as well as their friendships, as friends were coming over for dinner less frequently

  • Other Reddit users suggested the couple take cooking classes together or the man stops eating her food and cooks for himself

A husband is on a knife’s edge because of his wife’s cooking, which he confessed is so bad that it “might kill someone one day.”

The 29-year-old man explained on Reddit’s “Am I the A------” forum how the way his 28-year-old partner of eight years prepares certain foods is affecting their marriage — and their friendships.

“Meals are just about the only place of contention in our marriage, but I’m scared she’s going to kill someone one day,” he admitted, before revealing that friends are “coming to fewer and fewer invitations for dinner.”

“We split the cooking in our house 50/50, but when she cooks I feel like I have to watch her like a hawk [because] she undercooks just about everything, especially meat, and no matter how many times I try to politely correct her, she claims I’m being ‘picky,’ ” he continued.

The man's efforts to help his wife — as well as instructions on food packages and Google recipes — haven’t alleviated the cooking mishaps over the years, which he said has resulted in a variety of overcooked or undercooked food, including rice, pastas, vegetables, breads and meats.

“The thing is, I wouldn’t care so much if it was just me, but she always wants to cook for our friends,” he wrote. “She really prides herself on her cooking and wants to make everything herself. I just trail behind her, trying to make sure it’s all edible … our friends will politely eat, but I noticed they’ve been coming to fewer and fewer invitations for dinner.”

However, a recent dinner involving chicken intensified his concerns.

“Things all came to a head the other night when she went to put some chicken in the oven as I was hopping in the shower. When I came out, she had pulled the chicken out and said dinner was ready,” he recalled. “I was skeptical and told her that it had only been like 10 minutes.”

“She said she pan-seared it first so it was fine, but when I came to look, the sides were literally pink. I snapped a little and told her she’s going to kill someone one day from serving them raw meat,” he added, stating he then asked her, "Can’t you see that it’s pink? That’s food safety number 1."

In response, the man said his wife replied that "it’s not her fault, her mother never showed her how to cook chicken growing up.”

He then told her, “Well you’re almost 30, that’s no excuse for not knowing how to cook at all,” which led her to be “pretty upset with me.”

Wondering if he was rude, he asked Redditors, “Am I the a------ for telling my wife she can’t cook?” His March 31 post has attracted more than 1,400 comments, with the general consensus being he was not in the wrong.

“Maybe both of you take a basic cooking class together as some sort of couples thing,” one person suggested, before adding more potential remedies. “Possibly sit down with her when NOT cooking or eating and say, look let’s fix this cooking situation. You say your mother never taught you how to cook. I was harsh and said you should know by now."

Another person addressed the issue about their friends, writing, “Quit eating her food and cook your own. As for everyone else, well, either they’ll eventually all stop coming or one of them will become a casualty.”
