Actor Marc Blucas Spent Years Renovating Historic Home Where Mother-in-Law Dayle Haddon Died of Suspected Carbon Monoxide Poisoning
Dayle was found dead from suspected carbon monoxide poisoning in Blucas' Bucks County, Pa., home on Friday, Dec. 27
Marc Blucas, son-in-law of the late model Dayle Haddon, once spoke passionately about renovating the Pennsylvania home in which Haddon would later die of suspected carbon monoxide poisoning at the age of 76.
In a resurfaced 2016 interview with the Hallmark Channel, the actor — who is married to Dayle's daughter, Ryan Haddon — spoke in detail about the home, revealing that he and his wife, 53, bought the property in part to “be closer to family.”
“It’s pretty amazing,” Blucas, 52, said of the house, which was built in 1711. “And it’s a way to stay creatively stimulated when I’m not out filming and working.”
He then shared that a major motivator for relocating to the East Coast was his love of DIY projects and old structures. “I think — like most do-it-yourselfers — you like working with your hands, you know? [And] it’s the only part of the United States that has that kind of architecture with old stone barns and old stone houses. So I know it would be projects for life.”

Blucas, who is best known for playing Riley Finn in season 4 of the cult-favorite show Buffy the Vampire Slayer, also wrote about his passion project in an in-depth 2021 Instagram post. At the time, he shared that he had attained his contractor’s license and was working on other properties.
“When we moved to Pennsylvania 10 years ago, my wife took a giant leap of faith…by allowing me to pursue a dream to find a historic property that I could restore for our growing family,” he wrote in the post's caption. “That’s a really nice way of saying I wanted to buy — and live in — a s-------. A place I could re-imagine. One that was going to require patience, love and effort to make it a finished product."
He continued: "And while I’m not sure that’s ever an attainable result with a 310 year old farmhouse, we have created something magical along the way, and hopefully showed our kids the value of hard work, preserving our historic buildings and the gratification that comes with learning new things and doing them yourself.”

Authorities also found 76-year-old Walter Blucas passed out on the first floor of the home. He was rushed to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick, N.J., where he is currently receiving treatment.
“The investigation indicates a faulty flue and exhaust pipe on a gas heating system caused the carbon monoxide leak,” states a Dec. 28 update to the same police report. “This tragic incident serves as a stark reminder of the importance of carbon monoxide safety precautions in our homes.”
A representative for Blucas did not immediately respond to PEOPLE's request for comment on Saturday, Dec. 28.
Blucas married Ryan in 2012. The couple share two daughters, and Ryan also shares two children with her ex-husband Christian Slater.
