Don’t shame Maren Morris for her topless photo shoot, the country singer warned critics on Instagram.

The “Circles Around This Town” artist took to the social media platform on March 18 to share a photo of herself from her 2019 shoot with Playboy, in which she posed topless with a cowboy hat. On her Instagram Story, she shared a comment from a follower, who encouraged Morris to “Please dress appropriate.” Maren responded back, “RESPECT 4 MOM BOOBZ.”

Morris followed that exchange up with a post to her Story which read, “Letting all prudes know that women in country music own their sexuality too.”

On her Instagram grid, she shared further thoughts on the backlash, writing in the caption of the same photo from the Playboy shoot, “Before I go into the next album era, I did @playboy in 2019 and got a lot of hate at the time, but I’m the proudest that I showed country female sexuality in its realist form here. We are nuanced, we are messy and stretch-marked in the most beautiful way. Don’t sleep on us. We tell your down home stories in the most unflinching, gorgeous lane. Don’t forget it.”

Morris was applauded for her message in the comments section by her peers in the industry. Singer-songwriter Joy Oladokun wrote, “Proud of ya,” while LeAnn Rimes added, “I adore this photo! You look stunning! The ones talking shit are only DYING to let this side of themselves out. Expression, not repression.” The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star Kyle Richards called Morris a “smoke show,” while Jenna Dewan showed her support with three heart emojis.

This isn’t the first time Morris shut down notions that she should hide her sexuality. In 2019, she wrote on Instagram following the Playboy shoot, "Some can slut-shame me for my lyrics about sex, and you can put me in your little box, but I just want to live and love."

In 2020, she hit back at a hater on Instagram who criticized a photo in which her hair covered her breasts. The follower wrote at the time, “Wavy hair as the camera is only on your tits. Yes, it’s distasteful for sure. Come on if your caption reads wavy hair maybe keep the focus on the hair , or perhaps make the caption big boob? Just saying like holy cow. Everything in this world doesn’t make sense anymore, clearly these littles don’t have much to look up to either.”

Maren replied, “Girl BYE. Don’t let my boobs knock you on the way out.”
