Margot Robbie Is a ‘40s Pin-Up Barbie in a Tie Top and Wide-Leg Pants
Margot Robbie traded Barbie pink for the most perfect pops of bright cherry red at the Deadline Contenders event in Los Angeles on Saturday.
Robbie channeled a 1940s pin-up in a white button-down with a red floral print, by Bottega Veneta, which she tied in front. She wore the piece with dark blue wide-leg jeans with red stitching and big cuffs, and accented her retro look with red details, including a woven bag, open-toe heels, and a belt with a chunky silver buckle. Robbie rounded things off with jewelry by Anita Ko, a red manicure, and a muted red lip; she wore her golden locks down in soft waves.
The event highlighted 28 movies from the year, including Barbie, with Q&A panels and screenings. It also featured an espresso bar with latte artists who created images of stars, including Robbie.
The actor-made-producer posed on the red carpet with Barbie director Greta Gerwig—who wore a glorious gold velvet suit and black pointed-toe heels—and co-star America Ferrera—who wore a black mock-neck shirt, a black printed maxi skirt, and black platform boots.
During one of the panels, Robbie said Gerwig “changed the game” with Barbie—the highest grossing film in Warner Bros. history and the highest grossing movie made by a female filmmaker.
“I definitely didn’t want to try and make a puff piece Barbie,” Robbie said during the panel. “I wanted us to run at the scary things as much as we celebrated the wonderful things. That’s exactly why I went after Greta, because I was like, ‘She would do that.’”
The same night, Robbie embodied sleepover Barbie in a luxe baby-pink pajama set with feather trim and bubblegum-pink open-toe heels.
