Margot Robbie Dresses Like Another Famous Barbie During Press Tour
During her tour in Seoul, Margot Robbie has been appearing in outfit after outfit inspired by iconic Mattel Barbies of bygone eras. On Monday, she honored 1964’s “Sparkling Pink” Barbie with a look by stylist Andrew Mukamal, who shared a picture of the vintage doll on his Instagram page to confirm.
For her press conference on Monday, Mukamal dressed the Barbie star in a custom Moschino skirt and matching waist length blazer, both in bright pink and covered in glittering stones. Under the jacket was a crop top matching the rest of the bedazzled fabric.
She wore the skirt suit with a pair of open toe heels by Manolo Blahnik, also in bright pink, and a matching pillbox hat. In one hand she carried a heart-shaped purse. For extra sparkle, she wore Tiffany & Co. jewels.
Robbie wore her long blonde hair down and gently curled. Her makeup was simple, with a pale pink lip, leaving her looking fresh-faced and glowing despite the world tour of press obligations. The day before, she was dressed as 1984’s “Day to Night” Barbie with two different Versace looks. First, for her day look, Robbie was wearing a pink suit and carrying a rhinestone covered eighties-style cell phone.
The night look was a pale pink bodice with a darker pink ruffled skirt.
The film debuts in theaters on July 21 and features a huge cast of stars, including Ryan Gosling, Will Ferrell, Emma Mackey, Dua Lipa, Hari Nef, Simu Liu, and Ncuti Gatwa. Robbie both stars in and is producing the Greta Gerwig penned flick. Robbie's been working on the project since 2018, though she said in an interview with Vogue that she never even owned a Barbie while growing up in Australia.
“It wasn’t that I ever wanted to play Barbie, or dreamt of being Barbie, or anything like that,” Robbie said. “This is going to sound stupid, but I really didn’t even think about playing Barbie until years into developing the project.”
And she was clearly perfect for it all along.
