Marjorie Merriweather Post's Jewelry Collection
American socialite and heiress Marjorie Merriweather Post became the richest woman in the country at age 27 when she inherited General Foods (then known as the Postum Cereal Company) from her father. She poured her fortune went into such things as the now-infamous Mar-a-Lago estate in Palm Beach, a collection of French and Russian art housed at Hillwood, her D.C. home-turned-museum, and what became one of the great 20th century jewelry collections.
Below are a selection of the Cartier, Harry Winston, and Van Cleef & Arpels pieces to be displayed at the house museum starting Saturday. Whatever you can't marvel at in person will be found in the exhibit's corresponding book, Spectacular: Gems and Jewelry of the Merriweather Post Collection.
