Comfort is my number one priority in the winter; I want to be cozy and warm at all times. A thick sweater is the obvious solution, but there’s another, though sometimes-overlooked style I also swear by. It’s no wonder Martha Stewart has made it a staple in her winter wardrobe.

Like Stewart, I’ve spent the past few months reaching for sweater pants over and over again. The knit style is soft and roomy like my favorite sweatpants, but a little less frumpy. So while I, of course, spend all day lounging in them, I also feel comfortable running errands, heading to the movies, and even grabbing casual dinners in the style.

Below, shop my hack for making winter dressing cozier, including an under-$30 pick, a luxurious cashmere style, and the sweater pants I swear by.

8 Best Sweater Pants

Grapent Wide-Leg Sweater Pants

Amazon

Amazon

At Amazon, you can grab my go-to winter style for just $28. Grapent’s pants are the perfect combination of cozy and cool, pairing an on-trend wide-leg and a flattering ribbed design with an elastic waistband and knit material shoppers call “warm, thick,” and “super soft.”

Naadam Signature Cashmere Paperbag Wide-Leg Pants

Naadam

Naadam

I’m considering splurging on Naadam’s 100-percent cashmere pants. Shoppers say the cashmere is so “heavenly soft,” it almost feels like wearing nothing. But despite that PJ-like feel, the style’s simple, classic look makes it possible to dress up. One fan wrote that they’ve paired the pants with a matching sweater and blazer, and you can always add your favorite heeled booties or loafers to further elevate the look.

J.Crew Slim Flare Sweater Pants

J.Crew

J.Crew

These pants from J.Crew are easily the dressiest style on the list, with customers calling them “professional and polished looking.” The pants have a slim fit that expands into a dramatic, leg-lengthening flare. They’re finished with a decorative front seam, which ups the sophistication. So while these are comfortable, they’re also totally work appropriate.

I’m always looking for ways to make my winter wardrobe more comfortable, and sweater pants are the cozy hack I keep coming back to. Below, shop five more styles, including the Gap pair I’m currently wearing at the time of writing and the drawstring style that’s topping my wishlist.
