This McDonald's Cult Favorite That's Been Around For Over 50 Years Is Finally Coming Back
The luck of the Irish seems to have arrived a little early this year. We're still a ways away from St. Patrick's Day, but McDonald's is releasing its Shamrock Shake and Oreo Shamrock McFlurry on February 5. Yes! Next week! That's way earlier than past year's releases, but we're not complaining.
News of next week's Shamrock Shake launch was first revealed by @snackolator, an Instagram account that shares food and drink news, and was met with lots of excitement from fans. According to the account, a McDonald's employee confirmed that the festive green drink will be available starting Monday, February 5.
Then McDonald's announced that it is indeed returning on February 5, confirming the rumors. Given that last year's Shamrock Shake was released on February 20, that means we're getting the shake two weeks earlier this year. We're not sure what we did to deserve this kind of luck, but we'll take it.
A cult-favorite for years, the Shamrock Shake is made using just two ingredients: vanilla soft serve and Shamrock Shake syrup. The minty shake is then topped with a generous serving of whipped cream.
The Shamrock Shake was invented in 1967 by a Connecticut McDonald's owner in celebration of St. Patrick's Day. It debuted at national McDonald's locations in 1970, and was an instant hit. The McFlurry version of the Shamrock Shake was first introduced in 2020 and includes the same ingredients as the Shamrock Shake, plus crushed Oreos.
If you can't wait to get your hands on the shake and want to make one at home, our copycat recipe is a must-try. And don't forget about the boozy version!
