Mediterranean fast-casual restaurant is about to open new location in Johnson County

Cava’s newest location will open in Johnson County on Friday, according to the Mediterranean fast-casual chain.

The new restaurant at 8701 Shawnee Mission Parkway in Merriam will begin serving customers daily from 10:45 a.m. to 11 p.m.

The new location in the Merriam Grand Station development will also feature a pickup lane, where customers can grab drive-thru orders made via Cava’s app.

The chain, with hundreds of locations across the country, sells customizable bowls, pita wraps, Greek salads and more.

Cava has two locations in Overland Park, 6405 W 135th St. and 11895 W. 95th St.

Before the restaurant’s official opening, it will host a community preview event Thursday that requires advance registration. Neighbors will be offered free bowls or pitas from 10:45 a.m. to 2 p.m. and 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. The chain will also match monetary donations up to $1,000 made to local nonprofit Harvesters.

Merriam Grand Station is a $137 million mixed-use development at the site of a former Kmart.

Drake Development is planning several restaurants in the spot, including Wichita-based HomeGrown. The new Grand Station Lofts apartments have also been built nearby.

A Starbucks recently opened at the site.
