Canadian TikTok star Megha Thakur 'suddenly' dead at 21: 'Beautiful inside and out'
Canadian TikTok star Megha Thakur has died.
According to an Instagram post made by her "loving parents" this week, the Brampton, Ont.-native influencer died last week at the age of 21.
"It is with heavy hearts we announce the light of our life, our kind, caring and beautiful daughter, Megha Thakur, suddenly and unexpectedly passed away on Nov. 24, 2022 in the early morning hours," the post's caption read.
"Megha was a confident and independent young woman. She will be dearly missed. She loved her fans and would have wanted you to know of her passing. At this time, we request your blessings for Megha. Your thoughts and prayers will be with her in her onward journey."
Fans showed their love for Megha and her self-love advocacy, with many adding their support for the family's loss.
"Wow, I am speechless. My heart goes out to everyone who was lucky enough to have her in their lives. I am so sorry for your loss. She will be greatly missed and never forgotten. Her light has inspired me and so many along this journey. Blessings to her family and friends," wrote Inuvialuk actress Marika Sila.
"My dearest Megha, this is absolutely devastating. Sending your family so much love. I'm so truly saddened by the loss of a creative genius," said Toronto-based social media personality Stephanie Valentine.
"I am so sorry for your loss. Megha is beautiful inside and out," penned fellow Toronto-based TikToker Jackie Wyers.
"Megha knew how much of a force she was in the influencer space and how many women looked up to her, I told her all the time. We lost an angel too soon. I'm keeping you and your family in my thoughts," one person added.
"Her posts brought so much confidence and light when I was struggling. She was always an angel, and beautiful inside and out. I'm sorry for your loss and may she rest in peace," someone shared.
"This is very unexpected and heartbreaking. I haven’t followed her long but I quickly came to adore her as a bright and powerful person. Sending her soul and her family so much love," someone else chimed in.
"This is crushing. She will always be an inspiration to people around the world and will never be forgotten," an Instagram user commented.
Thakur, who has more than 930,000 followers and nearly 32 million likes on TikTok, last made a post on Nov. 18. In the clip, the body positivity influencer walked through the streets of New York wearing a grey and beige mini dress, white sandals and dark sunglasses.
"You're in charge of your destiny. Remember that," she wrote as a caption, while adding the hashtags "#confidence" and "#self-love."
According to the Western Gazette, Thakur posted her first video in November 2019. She was also a student at Western University in London, Ont. studying computer science in fall 2021.
A funeral service was held for Thakur on the morning of Nov. 29 in her hometown of Brampton.
