Meghan brings donations for girls affected by LA wildfires
Meghan is continuing to help those who have tragically been affected by the ongoing LA wildfires.
Having previously quietly volunteered at the Pasadena Convention Center with husband Prince Harry for the World Central Kitchen, the Duchess of Sussex was seen once again offering her help to Altadena Girls, a charitable organisation working to provide clothing, beauty products, and other essential items to young girls and teenagers affected by the Eaton Fire in Los Angeles.
In a new video shared to the organisation’s Instagram account on Wednesday, Meghan can be seen talking to a volunteer. Dressed in a plain black T-shirt, black trousers, and a “LA” baseball cap, Meghan is seen carrying large shopping tote bags from Our Place, a cookware and dinnerware brand that she has previously collaborated with.
“Thank you to everyone who showed up on Monday, which was such a special day! We love you!” the organisation wrote in the caption.
Meghan and Harry are seemingly assisting Altadena Girls in their LA wildfire relief efforts. In a recent Instagram post promoting the group’s fundraiser, Altadena Girls gave a special shoutout to the Archewell Foundation, the home of the Sussexes’s charitable endeavours. “We are official! We can now accept donations directly to our organisation and make sure that all of these funds get RIGHT to the community where it’s needed!” the post read. “A special thanks to The Archewell Foundation for your support.”
Since 7 January, multiple wildfires across the Los Angeles area have burnt more than 30,000 acres, decimating entire neighbourhoods and leading to the deaths of at least 24 people.
Meghan, who hails from Los Angeles, previously released a joint statement with Harry on the disasters. “In the last few days, wildfires in Southern California have raged through neighbourhoods and devastated families, homes, schools, medical care centers, and so much more – affecting tens of thousands from all walks of life,” the couple said in a statement published on their website. “A state of emergency has been issued. If you feel compelled to help, here are some resources and ideas.”
They went on to list different organisations aiding in recovery, including the World Central Kitchen, CAL FIRE and the LA Fire Department Foundation.
Meghan has also delayed her widely anticipated Netflix series to focus her efforts on fighting the wildfires.
Originally scheduled to be released this month, With Love, Meghan is now slated to debut on 4 March.
In a statement issued on Netflix's Tudum platform, the duchess wrote: “I’m thankful to my partners at Netflix for supporting me in delaying the launch, as we focus on the needs of those impacted by the wildfires in my home state of California.”
