Meghan Markle, 37, gave birth to a healthy baby boy, weighing 7 lbs., 3 oz. at 5:26 a.m. GMT on May 6.

The announcement of the birth came shortly after a first statement saying that Meghan had gone into labor, suggesting that palace aides had been caught off guard by the news.

While it was first believed that the duchess had a home birth at Frogmore Cottage in Windsor, reports have emerged that she was driven to a hospital on Sunday afternoon by Prince Harry and their Scotland Yard security team.

It’s understood that Meghan was taken to a London hospital, most likely the Portland Hospital, reports the Mail Online.

When Yahoo UK contacted the Portland Hospital, a spokeswoman said: “We are unable to confirm speculation about individuals who may or may not have been cared for at the Portland Hospital."

Buckingham Palace has declined to comment on where Meghan gave birth and details were not included on the famous easel yesterday. The place of birth is likely to be confirmed on the birth certificate within 42 days.

The Duchess of York’s daughters, Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie, were both born at the Portland in 1988 and 1990, respectively.

Other notable royal births include Samuel and Arthur Chatto, the sons of Lady Sarah Chatto, who is Princess Margaret’s daughter.

David Armstrong-Jones’s wife Serena (Princess Margaret’s daughter-in-law) had their two children, Viscount Linley and Lady Margarita Armstrong-Jones, at the Portland.

It’s also where Victoria Beckham gave birth to sons Brooklyn and Romeo.

Shortly after the birth announcement yesterday, Harry gave a TV interview within the grounds of Windsor Castle, saying he was “over the moon” after the arrival of his child.

“It was amazing, absolutely incredible,” he said. “I’m so incredibly proud of my wife.

“And as every father and parent would say, your baby is absolutely amazing.”

The duke and duchess announced ahead of the birth that they wanted to keep details around the birth private and opted out of an initial photocall.

It is thought that the world will get the first glimpse of their baby son within the next few days — likely on Wednesday.
