The Duchess of Sussex is a fan of the capsule wardrobe, sticking to her favourite silhouettes and wearing her tried-and-tested pieces time and time again. During her latest outing – in Vancouver, where she is in town for the Invictus Games – the royal proved that her love of the bootcut jean is going nowhere. Meghan was pictured in a pair of dark blue denim jeans by Veronica Beard, in a bootcut fit, a style that she has been championing for years.

The jeans in question are the American label's Beverly Skinny Jean Flare, which she wore in indigo, but they come in a wide range of colours. For the outing, she paired them with her favourite Stuart Weitzman boots, a navy blue jumper from La Ligne and she later added a checked blazer by Dôen. She also accessorised with a Cartier Tank watch, one that once belonged to Princess Diana.

The bootcut is defined by a fitted leg with a slight flare at the ankle – and is a style that Meghan has been seen in many times before. In fact, she was somewhat credited with bringing back the style when she was pictured wearing them back in 2018. During a royal engagement in Wales, the duchess chose a pair of black denim bootcut jeans by Mother Denim which made headlines as a bold fashion move. This was at a time when the skinny jean had dominated for over a decade.

Since then, the bootcut has become a much more popular silhouette once again. Of late, Bella Hadid has become the biggest champion of the bootcut, frequently wearing low-rise iterations with cowboy boots and tiny T-shirts. And, of course, last night's Super Bowl saw this style of flared jeans taking over the headlines once again as Kendrick Lamar performed in Celine's Marco cut. Proof perhaps that the bootcut is more versatile than you think.
