New year, new menu: Whataburger is bringing back two OG menu items, plus new flavors
Whataburger is bringing back some of its most-loved menu items this month to honor its 75th anniversary.
The Texas-based fast food chain has a reputation for serving five-inch burgers and meaty meals packed with flavor.
The restaurant recently announced new additions to the menu and the return of two original items that had been discontinued. These menu items will be available starting Tuesday, Jan. 7, according to a news release on Whataburger’s website.
Here’s what’s in store:
The Monterey Melt
Two beef patties oozing with Monterey Jack and American cheese, topped with grilled peppers, onions and Whataburger’s signature Jalapeño Ranch sauce make up the classic Monterey Melt burger. The burger was last spotted on the menu in 2022.
Chicken Fajita Taco
Last seen on the menu in the early 2000s, the Chicken Fajita Taco is made with chicken breast tucked in a soft flour tortilla, and toasted with red peppers, poblano and charred onions. Whataburger advises customers who want to elevate their taste experience to top the taco with Monterey Jack or shredded cheese, bacon, avocado, jalapenos and Whataburger’s creamy pepper sauce.
What else is new at Whataburger this year?
Whataburger is also introducing a new drink flavor to its menu as a part of the anniversary celebration. The Mexican Hot Chocolate Coffee (iced and hot) and Mexican Hot Chocolate Shake, which combine the best of chocolate and cinnamon, will also be available starting Tuesday, Jan. 7. Customers can add the flavors to coffee or to a shake.
In addition to the new menu items, Whataburger is collaborating with Wrangler to create a 24-piece collection on its Whatastore that includes denim jackets, pants, graphic tees, and ballcaps. The store will offer monthly specials priced at $19.50 in honor of the company’s inaugural year. Every month, exclusive items and collectibles will be released in the online store.
In March, a new Whataburger store is scheduled to open off of Highway 287 in north Fort Worth.
